【摘要】:In-linemetersprovidearapidmeansofdetectingmoisturecontentoflumberorwoodproductsinprocessing(thatis,onacontinuousproductionline).Twomajorusesaremonitoringtheperformanceofthedryingprocess(airdrying,kilndrying),andprovidingsortingoridentificationofmaterialatpredeterminedlevelsofmoisturecontent.Thesemeasurementsareinferentialinthesensethatphysicalmeasurementsaremadeandcomparedagainstcalibrationcurvestoobtainanindirectmeasureofmoisturecontent.Thesemeasurementsmaybeinfluencedbyoneormorephysicalpropertiessuchasactualmoisturecontent(averageandgradient;seeAppendixX5),density,surfacemoisture,chemicalcomposition,size,andtemperatureofwood.Inaddition,themeasurementsmayalsobeinfluencedbyenvironmentalconditionsandthedesignspecificationsofthemeter.Thebestperformanceisobtainedbyanawarenessoftheeffectofeachparameteronthemeteroutputandcorrectionofreadingsasspecifiedbythesetestmethods.Thetwomajoranticipatedusersofthesetestmethodsareinstrumentmanufacturerswhoseprimaryconcernislaboratorystandardizationandcalibration,andinstrumentownerswhomayhaveaprimaryfocusonfieldstandardizationandcalibration.Thesetestmethodspresentthelaboratoryandthefieldasseparatetracks(seeAppendixX2).4.2.1LaboratoryStandardizationandCalibration8212;Thisportionofthesetestmethodsisintendedforguidanceofequipmentmanufacturers.Specifictestrecommendationsaretailoredtothecapabilitiesofalaboratoryenvironment.4.2.2FieldStandardizationandCalibration8212;Thepredominantuseofin-linemetersisinproductioninwhichlumbercharacteristicsandenvironmentalconditionsreflectactualmillprocesses.Fieldstandardizationandcalibrationisessentialtoaddressorencompassmuchofthevariabilityinproduction.4.2.3Applicationsusingtheoutputofthein-linemoisturemetermaymodifythemeteroutputsignalsorhaveinherentresponsecharacteristicsthatarenotrepresentativeofthemeter.1.1Thesetestmethodsapplytoinstrumentsdesignedtodetect,ormeasure,moistureinwoodwhichhasbeendriedbelowthefibersaturationpoint.Thepurposeofthesetestsistoprovideaunifiedstandardagainstwhichsuchsystemscandemonstratetheirsuitabilityfortheirintendeduse(seeAppendixX1).1.2Thestandardisconfiguredtosupporttestsbymoisturemetermanufacturersaswellasend-usersofsuchsystems,thereforethetextfollowstwotracks(seeAppendixX2).1.3Testmethodsspecifiedformanufacturersaregenerallydesignedforlaboratorysettingsandareintendedtoprovideastandardagainstwhichamanufacturercertifiescalibrationandgeneralsystemconformance.1.4Testmethodsforend-usersaregenerallydesignedforfieldsettingsandareintendedasastandardizedsetofproceduresfordeterminingthesuitabilityofaspecificmachineforaparticularuse.1.5Applicationssuchaslumbermarkingorsortingsystemsutilizingtheoutputofthein-linemeterarenotpartofthisstandard.1.6ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.7Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
