【摘要】:Thisisafire-test-responseguide.Thisguideisintendedtoprovideguidancefortheselectionoftestmethodsthatareapplicabletodeterminingfire-test-responsecharacteristicsofupholsteredfurnitureitemscontainedwithinadetentioncell.Thisguideisintendedforusebythoseinterestedinassessingthefirepropertiesoftheupholsteryproductsandtheircomponentmaterialsorcomposites,withincellsandotherareas(suchasisolationlounges)ofdetentionandcorrectionaloccupancies.ThisguideincludesstandardtestmethodspromulgatedbyASTM,NFPA,UnderwritersLaboratories,tradeassociationsandgovernmentagenciesandotherproposedtestmethods.Itdoesnotincludeindustrialmaterialsspecificationtests.Theguideindicatessomemeansbywhichmodificationsofstandardtestmethodsleadtopotentialachievementofcertaintestinggoals.UsetheSIsystemofunitsinrefereedecisionsassociatedwiththisguide;seePracticeE380.Theunitsgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.Someindividualstandardsreferenceduseinch-poundunitsforrefereedecisions.Thisguidecontainsfourtypesoftestmethods,namely:(1)genericsmall-scalemethods,(2)specificapplicationsofsmall-scaletestmethodstoparticularproductsorcompositesofproducts,associatedwithupholsteryitems,(3)real-scaletestmethodswhereactualupholsteryproductsareexposedtoheatorflame,and(4)guidesexplainingtheconceptsinvolvedwithroom-scaletesting.Themainfire-test-responsecharacteristicsinvestigatedinthisguideare:ignitability,easeofextinction,flamespread,heatrelease,smokeobscurationandtoxicpotencyofsmoke.Thisguidemeasuresanddescribestheresponseofmaterials,products,orassembliestoheatandflameundercontrolledconditions,butdoesnotbyitselfincorporateallfactorsrequiredforfirehazardorfireriskassessmentofthematerials,products,orassembliesunderactualfireconditions.Firetestingofproductsandmaterialsisinherentlyhazardous,andadequatesafeguardsforpersonnelandpropertyshallbeemployedinconductingthesetests.Thistestmethodmayinvolvehazardousmaterials,operations,andequipment.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
